WMitch McAffee and Daniel ChanSTICK IT Area of Interaction:Environments Significant Concept:The Design Cycle can help me complete a task. Unit Question:Why is it important to stick with it?
Design Specifications: Using 4 rolls of duct-tape and the Design Cycle, create a useful product that can help people in their environment. This is due February 10.
Investigate: Completely explain the problem and its relevance to your life. The problem is that we need to create a product from 4 rolls of duct tape and the relevance to our lives is that we need to stick to what we start. The problem is that one of our backpacks is breaking and we need it for school purposes. Therefore we are going to make a super mega ultra awesome durable duct tape backpack that is jesus worthy, just kidding it wont be that great but it will still be pretty cool. This relates to all of our lives because all of us need a backpack for school. Critically investigate the problem and evaluate information from a variety of appropriate sources.
backpack http://ducttapefashion.com/products/backpack.htm http://duckbrand.com/Duck%20Tape%20Club/ducktivities/purses-and-handbags.aspx Provide a detailed explanation of how you will test your product against the design specifications. (requirements) We will test the product against the design specifications by asking others if it looks good. We will test the strength of the backpack by adding multiple books into the backpack and adding other misc. items that are usually found into the backpack. The pockets are going to be tested by the amount of weight they can hold as well. We will model it after a previous duct tape backpack that was made in Art Foundations class. backpack Design: Create a range of possible designs, and evaluate all of them against the design specifications (requirements). Innovate a backpack by doing the following: Enlarging the main pocket, adding a zipper, adding other pockets, pencil holder compartment, ipod compartment, superduper secret compartment. Choose the best design and evaluate it fully against the design specifications (requirements). We are going to make a back pack that will have a compartment. We are using this because it is the one that sounded the most useful to all of us, as well as other people.
Plan: Create a plan that contains a number of detailed, logical steps that describes how you will use your resources and time. 1. First cut the front and bottom of the backpack 2. Re-tape the bottom of the back pack using longer peices of tape 3. Add pockets on the sides of the back pack 4. Add extra slit/pockets within the backpack 5. Add a zipper for the main compartment 6. Make it look fancy 7. Test the strength of pockets 8. Strengthen pockets if needed. Evaluate the plan and justify any changes to your design. We did not change our design from our plan
Create: Skillfully use appropriate techniques and equipment. Follow your plan, justify changes in the plan, and create an appropriate product using your resources and time.
Evaluate: Evaluate your product based on the design specifications, results of testing, and feedback from self and others. Evaluate your performance at each stage of the design cycle and suggest improvements. Completely explain how sticking to a task impacts your life and environment.
Attitude: You were consistently motivated and respectful.
